I can’t help but romanticize engagement sessions. They are already filled with so much love, and I love getting to know couples during their sessions. But there was something so dreamy about Mackenzie and Dominic’s dreamy Surf City engagement session.
Cloudy skies and an impending tropical storm couldn’t dampen Mackenzie and Dominic’s spirits. We had to move up their session time due to the rain from Tropical Storm Debby, but that didn’t stop us from creating the sweetest moments. We chose Surf City because Dominic proposed to Mackenzie on the bridge there. Including the bridge in their photos added a sentimental touch and the area provided us with backup options in case of rain.
After capturing some beautiful shots near the bridge, we headed to the end of the beach to continue their engagement session. As we walked along the sound side, we saw thousands of little baby crabs – it was so cute! I mean, there were so many! The coastal North Carolina backdrop, combined with the slight drizzle, gave me serious Nicholas Sparks vibes. The way Mackenzie and Dominic looked at each other was absolutely heart-melting. Even though this was their first time having professional photos taken, they were completely natural and flawless.
Their wedding isn’t until September 2025, but they wanted to have their engagement photos done before Dominic leaves for deployment this month. He won’t be back until the beginning of next year, so we had to make this session happen, rain or shine.
Later that day, Mackenzie messaged me to say how much fun they had and how comfortable they both felt taking photos. This is exactly why I do what I do. I love creating time for my couples to have fun, relax, and just allow them to create memories. It was an honor to capture their Surf City engagement. I can’t wait to photograph their wedding in 2025 and continue to document their beautiful love story.
